Diaphragm

Diaphragm, in anatomy, dome-shaped, muscular partition separating the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity in humans and mammals. It plays an important role in respiration. By contracting when a person inhales, the diaphragm helps to pull air into the lungs. When a person exhales, the muscle relaxes, forcing air out of the lungs.
