Morarji Desai



Desai, Morarji (1896–1995), Indian political leader. A disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and a devout Hindu, he held cabinet posts under Jawaharlal Nehru and was deputy prime minister for Indira Gandhi (1967–69) before breaking with her. He served as prime minister (1977–79).
