Dervish

Dervish, Muslim mystic, member of a Sufi brotherhood. Members serve a period of initiation under a teacher, and each order has its own ritual for inducing a mystic state that stresses dependence on the unseen world. The best known are the “whirling” and “howling” dervishes, who use forms of dancing and singing.
