Democritus

Democritus (460?–370? B.C.), Greek philosopher who theorized that reality is separated into atoms and the void. According to his theory, atoms make up all existing things and after a period of time, these atoms break apart and are drawn into the void. Democritus also believed true knowledge is derived not from sensory input but from the native intellect.
