Moshe Dayan



Dayan, Moshe (1915–81), Israeli military and political leader. Active in Israel's War of Independence (1948), he commanded the Israeli forces during the 1956 Sinai Campaign. He was minister of defense during the Six Day War of June, 1967 and from 1969 to 1974, when he resigned after being blamed for Israel's unpreparedness in the Yom Kippur War of October 1973. He was foreign minister 1977–79.
