Dorothy Day



Day, Dorothy (1897–1980), U.S. social activist. A reporter for left-wing papers, she was active in the Socialist movement before joining the Roman Catholic Church in 1927. She publicized the Catholic Church's social programs in the newspaper Catholic Worker, opened a house in New York for the hungry and homeless, and supported numerous liberal causes.
