America First Committee

America First Committee, organization that opposed U.S. involvement in World War II. Founded in 1940, it vigorously opposed the politics of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Much of its support came from the Hearst newspapers and the Chicago Tribune. The committee advocated isolationism and neutrality in European affairs. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor abruptly ended support for its activities.
