Amadís of Gaul

Amadís of Gaul, Spanish romance of chivalry. Garci Ordóñez de Montalvo is credited with the first known version, The Four Books of the Virtuous Knight Amadís (1508), although some evidence suggests that the story of Amadís, the medieval knight, may have been in circulation since the late 14th century. Cervantes' Don Quixote owes much to Amadís.
