Pedro de Alvarado



Alvarado, Pedro de (1485–1541), Cortés's chief lieutenant in the conquest of Mexico (1519–21) and leader of the force that seized what are now Guatemala and El Salvador (1523–24). As governor of Guatemala he instituted forced Indian labor and founded many cities.
