Almond



Almond, tree (Prunus amygdalus) of the rose family, the seed of whose fruit is used as food and flavoring and for medicinal purposes. It usually grows 10–20 ft (3–6 m) high and has spear-shaped, finely serrated leaves on thorny branches. The large flowers usually occur in pairs and are rose to white in color. It is native to Asia but grows well in California and the Mediterranean region.
