Aleutian Islands

Aleutian Islands, chain of rugged Alaskan islands of volcanic origin, extending westward 1,200 mi (1,900 km) from the Alaska Peninsula and separating the Bering Sea from the Pacific. Fishing is the chief occupation. During World War II the Japanese occupied the islands Agattu, Attu, and Kiska.
