Albert I



Albert I (1875–1934), king of the Belgians(1909–34); nephew and successor of Leopold II. During World War I Albert commanded the armed forces. He did much to improve conditions in the Belgian Congo, and he strengthened national defense and the merchant fleet and introduced social reforms in Belgium.
