Saint Alban



Alban, Saint (d. c. 304), first Christian martyr in Britain. Martyred during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian, he is said to have performed many miracles. A monastery was built in his memory in 795 by the king of Mercia, near the presumed place of his execution. St. Alban's feast day is celebrated on June 22 by Roman Catholics and on June 17 by the Church of England.
