Zircon



Zircon, silicate mineral, zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4), used chiefly as a gemstone and as the main source of the metals zirconium and hafnium, in industry and research. Zircon crystals are widespread in igneous deposits such as granite, in some metamorphic rock, and in beach sands. They occur in Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America, and may be clear, red-brown, green, yellow, or blue.
