Zamboanga



Zamboanga (pop. 343,722), Philippine city on the extreme western tip of Mindanao Island, capital of Zamboanga del Sur Province. Zamboanga is the major port and trade center of the Sulu Archipelago and exports hardwoods, rice, abaca, rubber, copra, fish, and sugar. Settled by Spain in 1635, much of the city was destroyed in World War II and was subsequently rebuilt.
