Yellowknife



Yellowknife (pop. 11,800), capital and largest city of Northwest Territories, in north-central Canada, on Yellowknife Bay of Great Slave Lake. The city was founded in 1935 after the discovery of gold nearby, and was relocated in 1945. The economy is supported by gold prospecting, mining, and tourism.
