Writing

Writing, in business, career in such diverse areas astechnical writing, journalism, fiction and poetry, and screenplay and script writing. Staff writers have salaried jobs with newspapers and magazines, in company public relations departments, at advertising agencies, and elsewhere. However, writing services are largely provided by freelance writers who are hired for particular projects (e.g., computer manuals, encyclopedia articles) or who create their own articles, scripts, and so on, which they then attempt to sell to various publishers and producers. Writers, particularly those already well established, may work through a literary agent to place a manuscript with a buyer. Only a small percentage of fiction writers and a handful of poets actually make a living from their creative writing.
