Witwatersrand



Witwatersrand, or the Rand, gold-bearing rocky ridge in southern Transvaal, South Africa. It produces one-third of the world's gold output and is South Africa's major industrial region, with Johannesburg located at its center. Soweto township also lies in the Rand.
