Wisconsin River



Wisconsin River, longest river in Wisconsin, rising in the north near the Michigan border and flowing 430 mi (692 km) south and southwest to empty into the Mississippi River near Prairie du Chien. Near the town of Wisconsin Dells, the river has carved a 7-mi (11-km) scenic canyon. The river was once an important link on the trade route between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi. Today it provides considerable hydroelectric power.
