Edward Winslow



Winslow, Edward (1595–1655), one of the original settlers of Plymouth, Mass., who came from England on the Mayflower and served as governor of the colony for 3 years. He and his wife, Susanna White, were the first to marry in the new colony. A friend of the neighboring tribes, he arranged the first treaty with Chief Massasoit. In 1646 he returned to England, where he served in the government of Oliver Cromwell until his death.
