Winnebago



Winnebago, Siouan-speaking Native Americans from eastern Wisconsin. Buffalo hunters and farmers, they were related to the Eastern Woodlands group. Once friendly to the French and English, they joined in the Black Hawk War (1832) against U.S. troups and were removed to reservations in Nebraska and Wisconsin. They now number about 2,000.
