Wilhelmina



Wilhelmina (1880–1962), Queen of the Netherlands (1890–1948), having acceded to the throne after the death of her father, King William III. In 1940 she fled to London to escape the German invasion, and from there directed her country's forces against Germany and Japan. Wilhelmina returned home at the end of the war (1945), and 3 years later turned the throne over to her daughter, Juliana.
