Wild barley

Wild barley, plant in the grass family. One kind of wild barley, squirreltail (Hordeum jubatum), is named because of its prickly, bearded appearance. The seeds of this grass not only spread quickly and destroy other plants, they burrow through to the hide of woolly sheep and cause irritation. In addition the rest of the plant, when chewed, often causes sheep to choke.
