White House conference



White House conference, extended meeting called by the U.S. president in which professional experts, community leaders, and other individuals discuss a specified topic. Similar state-level conferences may be mandated by the president. The topic of the first White House conference, called by Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, was conservation. Many of the more than 60 conferences since then have dealt with children or the aging.
