Andrew Dickson White



White, Andrew Dickson (1832–1918), U.S. educator and diplomat. While serving as chairman of the New York State education committee (1864–67), he founded (with Ezra Cornell) Cornell University on nonsectarian, liberal principles. White served as president of the university from 1867 to 1885.
