Water-skiing



Water-skiing, sport in which a person wearing a pair of ski-like runners glides over water while being pulled by a motorboat moving at speeds of 15–35 mph (24–56 kmph). Water skiing is done for recreation as well as for competition events, which include jumping, slalom, and trick riding. In the jumping competition, skiers ski jump off a ramp 24 ft (7.3 m) long and 6 ft (1.8 m) high in an attempt to achieve the greatest distance. In the slalom competition, a skier negotiates through a course of buoys as quickly as possible. For trick skiing, skiers perform intricate actions, such as jumps and turns.
