Watauga Association



Watauga Association, government (1772–75) set up on land leased from the Cherokee along the Watauga River in eastern Tennessee. The settlers, from Virginia and (after suppression of the Regulators) North Carolina, joined North Carolina (1775), became part of the State of Franklin (1784–88), and finally part of Tennessee (1796).
