Martha Custis Washington

Washington, Martha Custis (1731–1802), wife of President George Washington and first First Lady of the United States. At 17 she married a wealthy planter, Daniel Parke Custis, who died in 1757. She married George Washington in 1759 and moved with her 2 children to Mt. Vernon, which she supervised during Washington's absences.
