Washakie

Washakie (1804?–1900), chief of Eastern Shoshone Indians, a tribe from Utah and Wyoming. Because the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Blackfoot, among other tribes, were already the enemies of the Eastern Shoshone, Washakie and his people became allies of the U.S. government during the Indian Wars of the 1870s. He signed a treaty with the United States to allow the railroad through his tribe's territory. Later he voluntarily moved his people to the Wind River Reservation of Wyoming.
