Robert Penn Warren



Warren, Robert Penn (1905–89), U.S. novelist, poet, and critic. One of the poets associated with the Fugitive magazine (1922–23), Penn's poetry and novels are often set in the South and address political and moral themes. He won Pulitzer prizes for his novel All the King's Men (1946), and his poetry collections Promises (1957) and Now and Then (1979). In 1986 he was appointed the first U.S. poet laureate.
