Lynd Kendall Ward



Ward, Lynd Kendall (1905–85), U.S. artist, writer, wood engraver. His works include God's Man (1929) and other novels created in woodcut (the first such text-less novels published in the United States), and watercolors, oil paintings, and lithographs. He illustrated such children's books as The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge (1942) and The Biggest Bear (1952), for which he won the 1953 Caldecott Medal.
