Walrus



Walrus, either of 2 subspecies of seal-like marine mammals (Odobenus rosmarus), distinguished by upper canines that extend into long tusks (up to 3.5 ft/1.1 m) and wrinkled brown hides. Adult males may weigh up to 3,000 lb (1,400 kg). Walruses are found in shallow waters around Arctic coasts, often hauling themselves out onto rocks or ice floes to bask. They feed almost exclusively on mollusks.
