Walnut



Walnut, deciduous tree of the genus Juglans, prized for its wood and nuts. In the United States the black walnut (J. nigra) grows to 150 ft (45.7 m), its wood being used for furniture, musical instruments, and gun stocks. The English walnut (J. regia), which provides edible walnuts, is naturalized throughout the world. The walnut tree is a member of the family Juglan-daceae and is related to the hickory and pecan.
