Honus Wagner



Wagner, Honus (John Peter Wagner; 1874–1955), U.S. baseball player. Wagner, considered to be baseball's greatest shortstop, won 8 National League batting titles (1900, 03, 04,06–09, 11) and holds the National League record for triples (252 career). Wagner's hit over .300 for 17 consecutive seasons (1897–1913), a major league record. He played for the Louisville Colonels (1897–99) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1900–17) and was among the first group of players inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (1936).
