Vulgate

Vulgate, Latin version of the Bible, so called because it became the most widespread (Latin: vulgata) in use. Largely the work of St. Jerome, who revised earlier Old Latin translations, it was collected in the 6th century and universally established by 800. In 1546 the Council of Trent confirmed the Vulgate as the sole official version of the Roman Catholic church.
