Voodoo

Voodoo, folk religion, chiefly of Haiti, with West African and added Roman Catholic and native West Indian elements. It involves worship of the spirits of saints and ancestors, who may “possess” participants. Prayers, drumming, dancing, and feasts are part of the ritual. A cult group's priest or priestess is believed to act as a medium, work charms, lay curses, and recall zombies (the “living dead”).
