Volleyball



Volleyball, game for 2 teams of 6, who volley (using any part of the body above the waist) an inflated ball (8.25 in/21 cm in diameter) across an 8-ft (2.4-m) high net, conceding points by failing to return the ball or by hitting it out of bounds. Invented at the Holyoke (Mass.) YMCA in 1895 by W. G. Morgan, it became an Olympic event in Tokyo (1964).
