Vole



Vole, mouselike member of the New World rat and mouse family, closely related to the lemming. Voles are about 5 in (13 cm) long with short, shaggy, grayish-brown fur. Most inhabit fields and meadows. There are over 40 species of vole. The most common North American species is the meadow vole (genus Microtus).
