Videotape recorder

Videotape recorder (VTR), mechanism that records visual images and sounds on magnetic tape. The recorded picture and sound can be played back and seen on the television screen. Home videotape recorders, also known as video cassette recorders (VCRs), are used largely by a consumer population to record television programs.
