Vesta

Vesta, in Roman mythology, goddess of the hearth and home. She was the daughter of Saturn and Ops and the sister of Jupiter and is portrayed as young and virginal. Vesta's symbol, that of fire, evolves from the Roman necessity of maintaining a perpetual fire in the home as a sacred obligation. Vesta's temple, in the Forum in Rome, housed a public flame guarded by the six vestal virgins.
