Vegetarianism

Vegetarianism, restriction of one's food to substances of vegetable origin. Vegetarianism is practiced variously for health and fitness and because of ethical or religious beliefs. A vegetarian is a person who abstains from eating meat, either keeping strictly to a diet of vegetables, grains, nuts, and fruit, or including eggs, milk, butter, and cheese. The latter is called an ovo-lacto-vegetarian.
