Vatican Library



Vatican Library, official library of the Roman Catholic Church in Vatican City. It was founded by Pope Nicholas V (r. 1447–55) as a library for handwritten manuscripts. Open to scholars, the library contains about 1 million printed books and more than 70,000 manuscripts.
