Mario Vargas Llosa

Vargas Llosa, Mario (1936– ), Peruvian author of novels depicting modern Peruvian social and political life. His novels include The Time of the Hero (1962), The Green House (1966), Conversations in the Cathedral (1969), The War of the End of the World (1984), Who Killed Palomino Molero? (1987), and The Storyteller (1989). Vargas Llosa was an unsuccessful candidate for the presidency of Peru in 1990. In 1994, he received the Cervantes Prize for his complete works.
