Vacuum

Vacuum, region of space devoid of matter. Such a region will neither conduct heat nor transmit sound waves. Because all materials that surround a space have a definite vapor pressure, a perfect vacuum is an impossibility and the term is usually used to denote merely a space containing air or other gas at very low pressure.
