Ute



Ute, Native American tribe speaking a Shoshonean language and having a nomadic culture common in the Western plains, particularly Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. Originally peaceful hunter-gatherers, they became marauders and buffalo hunters after obtaining Spanish horses in the 1800s. Some 4,000 now live in Colorado and Utah.
