Upland sandpiper

Upland sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), also called upland plover, North American bird of the sandpiper family. For most of the year, it lives on the prairies and meadows of Canada and the northern United States, but it migrates for the winters to the grassy plains of Argentina and Brazil. It is usually about 12 in (30 cm) long, with dark- and light-brown feathers and a white belly. It eats locusts and other insect pests.
