United States Botanic Garden



United States Botanic Garden, national plant collection in Washington, D.C. Begun by a private organization in 1820, it was taken over by the government in 1843. The collection, which is open to the public, consists of over 10,000 plants, from the common to the rare and exotic. Guided tours and education courses are available.
