United States Air Force Academy



United States Air Force Academy, federal institution for educating and training young men and women to be officers in the U.S. Air Force. Located in Colorado Springs, Col., and authorized by Congress in 1954, the academy offers a 4-year program consisting of academic work leading to a Bachelor of Science degree, military training (including flying instruction), physical education, and courses in ethics and honor. Candidates for the academy must be nominated by elected (or some appointed) U.S. officials.
