United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), large U.S. labor union formed in 1979 by the merger of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America and the Retail Clerks International. UFCW members include butchers, meat packers, canners, supermarket employees, department store clerks, and employees of pharmacies, shoe stores, hospitals, and nursing homes.
