Ungulate



Ungulate, term for any mammal with hoofs. Ungulates evolved to stand on their toes, and the toenails have become solid hoofs. The odd-toed ungulates (order Perissodactyla), with one or three toes per foot, include horses, rhinoceroses, and tapirs; the even-toed ungulates(orderArtiodacty la), with two or four toes, include pigs, deer, antelopes, camels, cattle, and hippopotamuses.
